I have been on a real kick lately to watch a lot of the old fantasy movies that I haven't seen in years. It all started with me picking up a copy of Labyrinth. Then I moved on to The Princess Bride. So having not seen Legend for twenty years I was expecting it to be about the same as the other two. But it wasn't. The other movies are light fantasy and this movie is very dark. I should have expected this with Ridley Scott being the director. But what a surprise it was. Every scene in the movie just oozes with darkness in an almost claustrophobic way. And I don't mean that in a bad way. Even the outdoor scenes feel indoors. This movie works itself up to a crescendo where the last half dozen scenes, where the last unicorn will be sacrificed, are some of the best fantasy scenes to come out of hollywood. IF you want some good epic fantasy that is dark and brooding rather than the usual light fare then you have got to get this. A Quick Synopis: Mia Sara, in an attempt to touch a unicorn, brings about its demise. This leads to her and Tom Cruise trying to save the now last remaining unicorn from an evil demon. The movie moves quickly and toward the end some of the scenes are very memorable. Mia Sara dressed up in an incredible black outfit and refusing to be the bride of The Lord of Darkness who is quite possibly one of the best character creations ever made (Played by Tim Curry). He stands about eight feet tall, is completely red and has those ox horns that are about 3 feet long. He is shown in the picture at left.
Here is a link to some pictures from the movie
