Overview: The stories follow the rise of a kitchen boy (Simon Mooncalf) as he struggles toward uniting the human kingdoms of the world. The major human realm is Erkynland and it has many parallels to feudal England including christian overtones. The world and story echo many similarities to King Arthur, Lancelot and Alfred The Great. The world is inhabited by many races including the elflike Sithi who are immortal. Other races in the world are modeled on real world races such as Vikings and ancient Romans.
