Hyboria - Conan the Barbarian
Created by Robert E. Howard

Main Characters: Conan The Barbarian,Bran Mak Morn, Red Sonya of Rogatino, King Kull

Overview: Hyboria is the name of a land on Earth that existed between the time of the sinking of Atlantis and the rise of our modern society. This period of time is referred to by the author as the Hyborean Age. It is a land that is loosely based on the geography of Europe and northern Africa. It is composed of many kingdoms that are reminiscent of current countries including Aquilonia which is based on France and England, Asgard based on Sweden, and Cimmeria (The Birthland of Conan the Barbarian) based on Denmark and Scotland.

The stories of Hyboria that Howard wrote span across multiple eras and each era was separated by a cataclysmic event. So each era had only a vague recollection of the era that came before.

Hyboria was described by Howard in his essay on the Hyborian Age and published for the first time in 2003 in the bookThe Coming of Conan the Cimmerian

Robert E. Howard's primary publishing market was Weird Tales magazine. This was where Hyboria, Conan, and many of his heroes made their first appearance. The stories have been republished in a multi volume book set. This is the first set of the book and a must have for any fan of Howard.
